What is a code audit?

A code audit is an independent review of a software codebase by an experienced engineer. It checks architecture, security, performance, test coverage and maintainability, and ends in a written report that lists each problem with evidence, its severity, the effort to fix it and the order to fix things in.

How much does a code audit cost?

At Cuanto Labs a standard code audit is $4,000 fixed and a version with a security deep-dive is $6,500. Variant Systems puts comprehensive audits at $5,000 to $10,000 and quick focused reviews at $2,000 to $5,000; boutique firms such as Invadel start near $4,800.

What is included in a code audit report?

An executive summary, a findings table with severity, effort and evidence for each issue, sections on architecture, security, performance, tests and dependencies, and a prioritized roadmap with cost ranges. Security findings are mapped to OWASP categories so your team, an investor or an auditor can check them.

How long does a code audit take?

About two weeks for one application of up to roughly 100,000 lines, and about three weeks with the security deep-dive. Be wary of a very fast turnaround on a large codebase: as Variant Systems puts it, two days for 50,000 lines means nobody is really reading it.

When should a company get a code audit?

Before you scale a product, raise money on it, hire a new team to take it over, or after it was built quickly with AI tools or a low-cost vendor. An audit costs far less than discovering the same problems after launch, under load, or in front of an investor.

How it runs

  1. 1. Pay or book a scoping call. Pay on this page for a standard scope, or book a call if you have several apps.
  2. 2. Access and context. Read-only access to the repository and infrastructure, plus a 30-minute call with your lead.
  3. 3. Automated and manual review. Tools find the obvious problems; a senior engineer reads the code for the rest.
  4. 4. Report and walkthrough. Every finding with evidence, severity, effort and a fix, then a call with your team.
  5. 5. Re-check. After your fixes we re-check the critical findings once, at no charge.

More questions

Can you audit code written with Cursor, Lovable, Bolt or other AI tools?

Yes. AI-built code has its own patterns of problems: missing authorization checks, secrets in the client, copy-pasted logic and untested edge cases. We look for those specifically.

Which languages and stacks do you audit?

TypeScript and JavaScript (React, Next.js, Node), Python, Swift and Kotlin mobile apps, and SQL databases such as Postgres. Ask on a call if your stack is different.

Do you sign an NDA?

Yes, before we receive any access. We work from read-only credentials and delete our copy of the code when the engagement ends.

A code audit is a point-in-time technical review of the code and systems you give us access to. It reduces risk but cannot guarantee the absence of defects or vulnerabilities, and it is not a penetration test, a compliance certification (such as SOC 2 or PCI DSS) or legal advice.
