How much does WordPress malware removal cost?

It depends on the size of the infection and what the price includes. Published prices range from very cheap automated cleanups to several hundred dollars or more for human work. Ours are fixed: $495 for a standard single-site cleanup, $895 with hardening, and $1,495 for stores or complex sites.

We do not quote competitor ranges here, because they change often and include different things. What matters is what you get for the price, which the next sections cover.

What does a malware cleanup actually include?

A real cleanup removes the malware, finds and removes backdoors, checks for rogue admin users, resets keys and passwords, and tells you in writing what was found. A cheap price often covers only the first item, which is why some sites are reinfected within days.

Ask any provider for a list. A good one includes the following:

  • • Malware and backdoor removal across files and the database
  • • Spam pages and malicious redirects removed
  • • Admin and user account audit
  • • Security keys (salts) reset so old logins stop working
  • • A clean report you can keep
  • • A re-clean period if the infection returns

What are the packages and fixed prices at Cuanto Labs?

We publish fixed prices so you can decide before a crisis gets worse. Each package is for one site unless noted. Turnaround starts after you give us access. The prices below are fixed, so you can compare them with other quotes before you hand anything over.

PackagePriceWhat it coversTurnaround
Emergency Cleanup$495Malware and backdoor removal, spam redirects, admin audit, salts reset, clean reportStart within 4 business hours; most done in 24 to 48 hours
Cleanup + Hardening$895Emergency plus root-cause report, updates, abandoned plugin replacement, blocklist review requests, firewall and 2FA2 to 3 business days
Store / Complex Cleanup$1,495WooCommerce, memberships or up to 5 sites on one hosting account, with checkout and payment testing3 to 5 business days
Security Update Sprint$295 one-timeBackup, staged updates, vulnerability check, rollback plan1 to 2 business days

The Emergency Cleanup includes a free re-clean for 30 days, and Cleanup + Hardening for 90 days. The Store package carries a 90-day guarantee and a refund if we cannot restore the site. Details are on our WordPress security service page.

Why do some cleanups cost more than others?

Scope drives price. A store with live payments, a membership site, or several sites sharing one hosting account all need more checking, because malware can hide in neighboring folders. Time pressure, the number of infected files and whether the site was hacked before also matter.

The method matters too. Automated scanners find known patterns. A person reads the code, checks the database and looks for the entry point. According to Patchstack, 46 percent of new vulnerabilities in 2025 had no patch at public disclosure, so a scanner alone cannot always tell you how the attacker got in.

Is a cheap malware removal as good as a more expensive cleanup?

Sometimes, for a simple infection on a small site. The risk is in what is left out: backdoors, the root-cause report and a re-clean period. A very low price usually means a template process. If the site is reinfected, you pay again, and you lose days.

Ask these before you hire anyone:

  • • Do you remove backdoors, or only the visible malware?
  • • Will I get a written report?
  • • What happens if the site is hacked again, and for how long?
  • • Who will touch my site, and do they have access to my customer data?
  • • Do you request review removal from Google or other blocklists?

What does the infection usually look like?

Knowing the type helps you judge the quote. The GoDaddy annual cybersecurity report found 834,661 infected sites in 2025 across more than 34 million scans. By type: malware 41.5 percent, SEO spam 35.2 percent, malicious redirects 21.7 percent, ads 1.1 percent and defacements 0.5 percent.

SEO spam, where hackers add thousands of junk pages to your domain, is the slowest to clean because the junk pages must be found and removed from search results. If your site sends visitors to other places, see why a WordPress site redirects to spam.

Is there a cost beyond the cleanup itself?

Yes. Plan for lost sales during downtime, time spent answering customers, and the update or replacement work that stops a repeat. For some businesses there are also notification or compliance obligations. We do not give legal advice, so ask your lawyer or compliance advisor if customer data was involved.

The cheapest protection is prevention. Keeping PHP, WordPress and plugins current closes most doors. Check your server with the free PHP version checker. With the flaws announced in October, see PHP2Shell and WordPress owners.

How do I stop paying for cleanups?

Move from emergency work to routine care. A care plan covers updates, backups, monitoring and a person who answers. Our Cleanup + Care bundle adds Care Essential at $349 per month to a cleanup, with the first month's care waived on a 6-month term.

You can read what care plans include on our website care plans page. If you want to know whether your site needs a cleanup at all, start with our first-hour hacked site guide.
